Backers,

I want to start by saying that we really do have the best customers in the world.  Thank you for your kind words of support. I lost a lot of sleep in the days leading up to sending the last update and your words of support and encouragement were a positive end to a few very long weeks.

Thank you, also, for taking the time to fill out the survey.  Based on nearly unanimous feedback, we’re going to continue to push forward on getting you the exact format we’d initially proposed on the new timeline. Your answers to the survey were essential in helping us make the best product for you, our amazing customers.

We’re negotiating production details with two really great companies for space on new and upgraded lines. We expect to ship product to you in July, regardless of which company we work with.  We have already ordered long-lead ingredients, so if last minute capacity becomes available on another line (which happens from time to time) we will have the option to jump in and get our products made early.  On the path we are pursuing, we see three significant risks:  1) the installation of the required equipment could take longer than expected;  2) regulatory approvals could take longer than expected; or 3) the contracts could be in negotiation but not signed, and until they are signed the space we’re negotiating for could be sold to someone else.

Regardless of factors outside of our control, we are really excited about these manufacturing partners and will keep you posted on the progress!

As always, if you have any questions get a hold of us: [email protected]https://discourse.sated.com, or comment right here.

Thanks again. Your support really did mean the world to me.

Backers,

Thank you for your patience and your enthusiasm over the past four months! After spending countless hours working to get the Sated RTD product manufactured in time to ship in February, our last manufacturing option failed late this month, and we’re going to be shipping late. As we mentioned in the risks section on our page, scheduling manufacturing has been our biggest challenge.

Starting with the so-what:

We will be shipping between 2 and 8 months late depending on how we proceed, and we’d like your feedback on which of the options you’d prefer.
Please fill out our survey at http://sgiz.mobi/s3/Ready-to-Drink-Options

Right now, the best options we have for manufacturing Sated RTD are:

Fully Shelf Stable, line time in June/July — expected to ship in July or August.  (This format will be released eventually even if we choose one of the other options in the short term.)

Refrigerated, line time available in March/April — expected to ship in April or May.

Reformulate from 330ml to 200ml containers and change from 400 to 200 calories. You’d get twice as many to match the amount of calories you originally purchased. The line time is available now, but it would require 1-2 months of reformulation and then 2-4 months of testing before the product would be ready — expected to ship in May to August.

Let us know what you think. Please fill out the survey at http://sgiz.mobi/s3/Ready-to-Drink-Options

As a token of our appreciation for your support and patience during the delay, we’re giving all backers an extra 20% off Sated products now through one year after Sated Ready to Drink ships (including new subscriptions, existing subscriptions, and re-orders of the RTD after your rewards ship). To get your personal backer discount code, email [email protected] from the email you used when you backed the campaign.

How did we get here?

When we originally committed to a February ship date, we had a manufacturer who had agreed to do our first run in November. Since then, the market for aseptic line time has become significantly tighter and that manufacturer has raised its minimums from 90,000 units per flavor per run to 1,000,000 units per flavor per run.

In October, we expanded our search to include smaller containers, cold manufacturing, and Mexican manufacturers.  We found a manufacturer in Mexico we like, and with a relatively small investment and an FDA inspection they could have easily produced our product in time to ship in February.

However, the US government has been shut down since December 22, and while the FDA has been shut down, that line is filling up with products for other brands. As of right now we are pursuing this option, but it is unclear when the product could ship.

We are talking to multiple manufacturers each week. Line time does become available from time to time, and we are ready to start production as soon as we find a manufacturer with line time at sub-million quantities.

We are sorry. We take our commitments to our customers very seriously, and we have missed our mark.

Thank you again for your enthusiasm, patience, and support. We have the best customers in the world, and we are working tirelessly to get an outstanding product to you as quickly as possible.

We just got the final samples of our new vitamin mix, changing up our iron source.  We swapped out Reduced Iron (because it is magnetic and caused minor issues during the test run) and are now using Ferric Orthophospate in its place.

We've also been on a north-america wide tour of manufacturing plants and  have a number of excellent potential manufacturing partners.  As we forecast in the risks section at the beginning, getting line time has been our biggest challenge to date.
